Uphold Rule of Law, Don’t Incite Public Now: Chief Justice

Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and cautioned against inciting public sentiment during a hearing on the constitutional validity of 18 state Shariah criminal provisions in Kelantan. Addressing distortions surrounding the case, she clarified that the issue is about the competency of Kelantan’s state legislature, not undermining Islam or Shariah courts.
