Matt Cortland and John Fleming, a married couple based in London, have built Gas Index, a US gas price tracker powered by AI agents. Using Claude Code and other tools, their bot “Bobby” called nearly 20,000 gas stations to collect real‑time prices, stacking them against everyday items like Dunkin’ iced coffees or college football tickets.

Gas Prices Rise Amid Iran Conflict, Tracked by AI

The project highlights rising fuel costs amid the Iran conflict and differences in US versus UK regulation. Gas Index now tracks over 170,000 stations, combining Google data, user submissions, and AI calls. The founders aim to make gas prices relatable, transparent, and accessible to all.
