SINGAPORE, Oct 17, 2026: Singapore is preparing to take action against seven Indonesian firms allegedly linked to forest fires blamed for worsening transboundary haze conditions affecting the city-state.
Environment Minister Grace Fu said investigations found that some of the haze experienced in Singapore originated from fires on land owned or occupied by the companies.
The notices will require the firms to deploy firefighting personnel to extinguish fires, prevent them from spreading and cease any burning activities. They will also be required to submit action plans detailing measures to control and prevent future outbreaks.

Fu said further action could be taken under Singapore’s Transboundary Haze Pollution Act where supported by available information and evidence.
She warned that haze conditions are expected to persist for several more weeks, with air quality potentially reaching hazardous levels before improving during the inter-monsoon period expected in late October or early November.
As of Friday evening, three regions recorded very unhealthy air quality levels, while authorities accelerated the distribution of N95 masks to vulnerable residents.
Regional monitoring agencies also reported hotspots across Kalimantan and southern Sumatra, with moderate to dense haze affecting parts of Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.
