SINGAPORE – Nearly 100 potholes were detected in the first 12 days of 2025, attributed to prolonged rainfall during the monsoon surge between January 10 and 13. A video shared on January 11 captured over 20 water-filled potholes along Tanah Merah Coast Road, sparking public attention. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) repaired the affected stretch on January 12 and noted fewer holes compared to the same period in 2024, which saw 776 cases. LTA attributed the decrease to enhanced road maintenance efforts. The problems typically form when water seeps into road cracks, which worsen under heavy traffic and prolonged rain.
