A Singaporean man, Idris Ami, 60, was sentenced by the Syariah High Court in Seremban to six months’ imprisonment and fined RM6,000 for teaching deviant doctrines contradicting Islamic law. He pleaded guilty to three charges under Negeri Sembilan’s Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 1992. Idris was accused of promoting deviant practices to a group, claiming to be a present-time prophet, and embodying spirits of past prophets. The offences occurred between September and December 2023. Separately, a busker, Norasid Md Said, pleaded not guilty to teaching deviant beliefs. His case, involving further charges, will proceed in early 2025.
