Sunway Group is exploring partnerships with three international technology companies to introduce emerging transport technologies in Malaysia, including autonomous passenger buses, driverless logistics vehicles and electric aircraft.
Announced by group president Datuk Anuar Taib at Transport Expo Asia 2026, the initiatives could see the technologies tested and potentially deployed across Sunway’s integrated townships and business operations. The company said the collaborations could also create opportunities for local talent development and technology transfer.
Sunway Targets Smarter Public Transport
Sunway is proposing to acquire and trial two fully electric autonomous buses developed by WeRide on the BRT-Sunway Line. The Transport Ministry has granted conditional approval for a pilot trial, which could help assess the feasibility of driverless public transport and more frequent shuttle services.
The group also plans to work with Neolix to distribute autonomous logistics vehicles for last-mile deliveries and the movement of goods and medical supplies between facilities. Separately, Sunway is exploring an electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft from AutoFlight, including a possible distribution arrangement in Malaysia.
Any aircraft trials or deployment would depend on technical feasibility and regulatory approvals, with Sunway intending to work with the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia. Potential applications include aerial logistics, emergency response and passenger transport. The proposals reflect the company’s push to integrate new mobility solutions into its property, healthcare, retail and other operations.
