The deregistration of Perikatan Nasional (PN) today appears to have had little impact on PAS and the coalition, and may even have strengthened their resolve ahead of the elections.
PAS vice-president Idris Ahmad expressed the party’s determination to face its opponents after the Registrar of Societies (ROS) cancelled PN’s registration.
Ahmad Samsuri Calls PN Deregistration “Unnatural” and Politically Motivated
Writing on social media, he said PAS and its allies are not shaken by the challenge, even as the Melaka state election draws near. “What symbol will PN use in the Melaka polls? Use any symbol, as long as it is not the PH and Bersatu logos,” he wrote.
ROS announced the cancellation this morning, saying PN’s reply to its show-cause letter did not address the questions raised.
The notice was sent on Sept. 22 and answered on Oct. 12. ROS said the response could not refute the grounds for deregistration, and the Registrar decided to cancel under Subparagraph 13(1)(c)(iv) of Act 832.
PN chairman Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, also a PAS vice-president, called the development “extraordinary” and “unnatural”.
He said PN had just received a letter from the Election Commission seeking feedback on the coalition’s logo for the Melaka polls.
He claimed the timeline suggests the move was politically motivated and driven by fear of PN’s influence. “The people’s wave will not be easily extinguished,” he said.
