NHA TRANG, Vietnam, Sept. 6 — Malaysia celebrated a historic return to the Miss World stage after 28 years when Taanusiya Chetty secured third place at the prestigious competition held in Nha Trang. The last Malaysian to achieve such success was Lina Teoh in 1998.

Beyond her third-place finish, Taanusiya also won the title of Miss World Asia and the coveted Beauty With A Purpose award, the heart of the Miss World pageant. Her humanitarian project — establishing a school within a hospital serving the Orang Asli community in Gombak — impressed judges and highlighted her commitment to education and social impact.

During the Top 6 Q&A round, Taanusiya spoke passionately about inspiring children to protect the environment. As a teacher, she said she would encourage students to plant trees, teaching them patience and responsibility while contributing to global conservation.

The crown ultimately went to Joheirry Mola Dominguez of the Dominican Republic, with Spain’s Elisabeth Alabern named runner-up. This year’s edition saw 111 contestants competing for the 73rd Miss World crown, following Thailand’s victory in 2025.
