Teenagers and Adults in Malaysia Affected by Compulsive Eating Disorders

Compulsive and binge eating disorders are becoming more prevalent in Malaysia, affecting teenagers and adults. Dr Tengku Mohd Saifuddin Tengku Kamarul Bahri stated that 14% of Malaysian teenagers experience binge eating, with 15% of girls and 12% of boys affected.

Over 50% of adults exhibit signs of eating disorders, though few receive formal diagnoses. Compulsive eating is often used as a coping mechanism for emotional struggles. Brain chemicals, such as dopamine and serotonin, play significant roles.

Processed foods and nutrient deficiencies contribute to the issue. Addressing root emotional triggers and promoting mindful eating are essential for managing these conditions.
