KOTA TINGGI – Five Thai crew members were injured, some seriously, after a fire erupted aboard a cargo vessel on Tuesday morning. The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) reported that the blaze originated in the ship’s galley at approximately 10:20 AM, roughly 30 nautical miles east of Tanjung Sedili.

Although the crew managed to contain the fire, the Johor Baru Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) was alerted via a distress signal at 12:20 PM. The MMEA’s Perkasa boat was immediately deployed to the scene to evacuate the victims, aged between 21 and 61. All injured sailors have since been transported to shore and handed over to medical authorities for urgent treatment.
