Transport Ministry Bans Sale of Special Plates to Private Entities

The Transport Ministry will no longer allow special vehicle registration numbers (NPK) to be issued or sold to companies, individuals, or NGOs for private gain, following a Cabinet decision made on August 17, 2022.

Deputy Minister Hasbi Habibollah confirmed in Parliament that the move ends profit-driven allocations of these plates. However, the public can still bid for exclusive registration numbers (NPI) via JPJeBid, which has collected over RM110 million since 2023. 

Funds go into the Federal Consolidated Fund for public benefit. Hasbi also acknowledged previous issues with the bidding system but said most technical glitches have since been resolved.
