Donald Trump has described the US-China trade talks in Geneva as a “total reset,” following the first day of high-level negotiations aimed at ending their tariff-fueled trade war. Trump praised the discussions as “friendly” and “constructive,” though no concrete progress was announced.

Talks continued after an eight-hour meeting between China’s Vice-Premier He Lifeng and US officials. Trump hinted at reducing tariffs from 145% to 80% but said China must make concessions. 

Both nations face economic strain, with nearly $600 billion in trade affected. The negotiations, while fragile, mark a cautious step toward easing one of the world’s most consequential trade conflicts.
