The United Nations Security Council has passed a US-led resolution outlining the mandate for a Gaza International Stabilisation Force. The force is central to the proposed ceasefire plan, which aims to secure a lasting peace and facilitate unhindered humanitarian aid delivery into the strip.
However, a Hamas spokesman speaking with Al Jazeera stated the group’s strong opposition to the presence of foreign military personnel, describing it as a switch from Israeli occupation to “foreign guardianship.”
Gaza Truce Plan
The resolution garnered support from a number of member nations, including the United Kingdom, France, South Korea, Slovenia, and Denmark, with many viewing the US plan as the “best chance” for lasting peace, enabling Palestinian self-determination and the reunification of Gaza with the West Bank under a reformed Palestinian Authority.
