Rights party Urimai, led by Dr. P. Ramasamy, has defended former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad over the Batu Puteh sovereignty issue. Ramasamy argued that while Dr. Mahathir’s decision to withdraw Malaysia’s appeal to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) may be criticized as a misstep, accusations of “treachery” by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim are unwarranted. He urged caution against politicizing the sensitive matter and called for diplomacy to address the loss. Ramasamy highlighted Malaysia’s shared responsibility in submitting the case to the ICJ, whose 2008 binding decision awarded Batu Puteh to Singapore.
