The Malaysian Cabinet has approved a new service agreement with Ocean Infinity, a UK-based company, to resume the search for the wreckage of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, which disappeared on March 8, 2014, with 239 people on board while flying from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The search will target a new 15,000-square-kilometer area in the southern Indian Ocean under a “no find, no fee” arrangement, meaning the government will only pay Ocean Infinity US$70 million (RM310 million) if the wreckage is found. The Ministry of Transport will sign the agreement on behalf of the government, reflecting Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to locating the aircraft and providing closure to the families. Previous searches, including a 2018 effort by Ocean Infinity under the same payment model, have failed to find the main wreckage.
