HANOI: A Hanoi court has sentenced Vu Van Vuong, 52, to death for killing his wife, daughter, son, and elderly mother in January 2025. Vuong strangled his 19-year-old daughter and 17-year-old son before murdering his wife that night and his bedridden 79-year-old mother the next morning. He later attempted suicide but survived. Vuong told police he wanted to “free” his family from poverty. Prosecutors called his actions “extremely cruel and inhumane”. During sentencing, Vuong admitted guilt and asked to be executed soon to “free himself”. The tragedy has left many mourning the innocent lives lost.
