SEPANG, Aug 2, 2026 — The Malaysian Weightlifting Federation (PABM) has urged sports authorities to allocate at least RM1 million annually to support the development of weightlifting, following the squad’s historic achievement of five gold medals at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. PABM president Datuk Ayub Rahmat said the allocation would recognize the team’s success and boost morale, noting that the federation operates on one of the smallest budgets and faces financial constraints, particularly in meeting athletes’ nutritional needs.

Ayub expressed confidence that the National Sports Council (NSC) and Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) would extend support, citing their past commitment. He emphasized that the team’s strategy focused on securing gold medals rather than chasing records, ensuring maximum success. Malaysia’s weightlifting squad emerged overall champions with five golds, one silver, and one bronze. Winners included Mohamad Aniq Kasdan, Muhamad Aznil Bidin, Muhammad Erry Hidayat, Muhammad Hafizuddin Roslin, and Muhamad Syahmi Nor Ghazali.
