A Threads post about a trip to Kelantan has caught the attention of Malaysian netizens. The user, Hana (@hanamansor), claimed she did not find a single toilet that was both clean and dry during her visit.
She said the problem extended to toilets at markets and restaurants, and that many of them carried the same fishy, earthy smell, which she suspected came from the water. She also believed the towns were poorly planned, and compared the public toilets unfavourably with those in Cyberjaya.
Even Kelantanese Netizens Agree: Public Toilet Complaint Strikes a Nerve
She said her post was about basic cleanliness, hygiene and public facilities that everyone deserves, and that legitimate criticism should not be treated as an insult to an entire state.
Many commenters agreed.
Several who identified as Kelantanese said her post was valid. One said he avoids public toilets in the state unless it’s urgent. Another suggested stopping at a mosque, where the toilets are usually clean. A third said some locals get defensive about criticism, which he felt slowed progress.
The post reflects one traveller’s experience and the opinions of commenters, not an official assessment of the state’s facilities.
