KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 30 — PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli launched a blistering attack on a group of NGOs and protesters who recently demonstrated outside the party’s headquarters, dismissing them as “machai for rent” and claiming they were merely political mercenaries hired to cause disruption.
Speaking during a podcast appearance, Rafizi said he would have been pleased if he were leading PIKAR, referring sarcastically to the protest involving what organisers claimed was a coalition of about 50 NGOs.
He alleged the demonstration had failed to gain traction and suggested even reporters had ridiculed the gathering before many chose not to attend.
Rafizi reserved particular criticism for activist Faizan, whom he accused of switching political allegiances depending on who was in power.

“He only appears when someone needs a noise-maker,” Rafizi said, claiming the activist had previously supported various political camps, including Umno and later Pakatan Harapan-aligned causes.

Drawing parallels with tactics frequently associated with Umno’s political machinery in the past, Rafizi said the culture of employing political “enforcers” or “bullies” for demonstrations had never succeeded in winning public support.
He claimed the protesters were unable to openly identify themselves, alleging some participants covered their faces and appeared uncomfortable being photographed.
The Economy Minister also questioned PKR’s handling of the incident, saying the party appeared to have lost control of its messaging and response.
Rafizi argued that even Umno had moved away from such tactics, warning that reliance on politically motivated demonstrators reflected a deeper decline in political engagement and credibility.
