Zaid Now Says Zahid-Hadi Alliance Could Revive Indonesia-Malaysia Union

KUALA LUMPUR, July 29, 2026 — A political commentator has suggested that an alliance between Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang could reshape Malaysia’s political landscape if Barisan Nasional returns to power. The remarks came after DAP’s Tony Pua warned voters that Zahid could become prime minister following an Umno victory.

The commentator argued Zahid’s leadership could strengthen Malaysia-Indonesia ties, citing his Javanese heritage, and referenced the historical Melayu Raya vision championed by Ibrahim Yaacob, Dr Burhanuddin Al-Helmy, Ahmad Boestamam and Ishak Haji Muhammad before and during the Japanese occupation.
