Umno May Not Win Supermajority In Parliament

Given the larger number of parties and coalitions involved, analysts believe it may be a ‘tall order’ for any group to win a supermajority this time.

At least three coalitions will compete for the Malay-Muslim vote, which accounts for two-thirds of the population, while first-time youth voters are a wild card. With the PAS not warming up to Umno and the two may fight it out harshly in 27 state seats, the chances for Umno to win big is reduced, say analysts.

At the time of publishing this article, some analysts are telling Latest Malaysia Umno may win the elections but the number of seats will be insufficient for a supermajority for it to claim a 2/3 majority as it has to find allies that will support it to stay in power.
