In 2007, PAS spiritual leader Tok Guru Abdul Hadi Awang was a major figure in the Bersih rally in Kuala Lumpur and without the help of the PAS, it might have not been that big a rally but it did not achieve what Hadi now says was the aim, that is toppling the government.
Had it toppled the government at that time, PAS would probably be in the government with the PKR and DAP since they were all buddies in the Pakatan Rakyat. PAS was helping Bersih.
Since the movement failed to ‘topple’ the Barisan Nasional govermnet and it is Pakatan Harapan that succeeded in toppling BN in 2018 pretty much without Bersih and certainly without the PAS, Hadi is now saying Bersih is an impure organisation that has an imported agenda similar to the Arab Spring.
