Traders and chicken suppliers who intentionally raise prices beyond the controlled price will be legally pursued, including facing charges in court, according to the Chairman of the State Investment, Trade and Consumer Affairs Committee, Lee Ting Han. He revealed that five suppliers in the Tampoi area are set to be taken to court for selling chicken above the government-set price.
Ting Han’s push for penalizing traders
The committee has already taken action against six suppliers and five retailers in the state for violating price controls during Ramadan. Ting Han stated that retailers selling chicken above the ceiling price of RM9.40 per kilogram have been issued compound actions, while suppliers who exceed RM8.10 per kilogram are also facing consequences.
Since the implementation of the Maximum Price Determination for Chicken and Chicken Eggs on February 5, a total of 347 cases in the state have faced action, with a compound value of RM134,200. Ting Han emphasized the importance of traders complying with the law and not taking advantage of the situation by arbitrarily raising prices during the Maximum Price Scheme for Hari Raya Puasa.
