China’s top diplomat, Wang Yi, has met with leaders of 10 Pacific island nations in a bid to expand Beijing’s influence in the region. The meetings come amid growing concerns about China’s growing military presence in the Pacific. Wang Yi offered the countries a wide range of economic and security assistance, including funding for infrastructure projects, scholarships, and police training. However, some of the countries have expressed concerns about China’s intentions, and it is unclear whether they will accept Beijing’s offer.
