60 PJ Food Court Stalls Submerged Under 1.2m of Water

For traders at Selera Jaya 223 food court in Section 51A, Petaling Jaya, May 6 brought a painful déjà vu. Just two weeks after the April 20 floods, heavy rain submerged 60 stalls under 1.2 meters of water, destroying appliances, stock, and vehicles. 

Stall Owners Appeal for Financial Aid After Disaster

Stall owners reported losses ranging from RM1,000 to RM8,000, with many left devastated. The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department confirmed teams were deployed at 4.15pm. 

Petaling Jaya City Council attributed the flash floods to rainfall exceeding 60mm, overwhelming Sungai Penchala and Sungai Klang. Authorities are now considering flood retention ponds to mitigate future disasters.
