June Mills, 96, the oldest woman in Britain convicted of dangerous driving, avoided jail after causing the death of Brenda Joyce, 76, in Formby.

Mills lost control of her Vauxhall Corsa, mounting a pavement and fatally injuring Joyce, while another pedestrian, Jennifer Ensor, 80, suffered minor injuries. Mills received an 18-month suspended sentence, a five-year driving ban, and a £1,500 fine.
Judge Simon Medland KC noted the tragedy of the case, highlighting Mills’ loss of good character. Mills expressed deep remorse, stating the incident happened quickly and she couldn’t control the car.
