DAP is not leaving, abandoning Anwar now says Loke

PETALING JAYA, July 24 – DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said the party remains committed to supporting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim despite plans to reassess its role in the unity government. DAP will hold a congress on Aug 16 to decide whether its leaders should resign from government positions following the party’s poor showing in the Sabah election last November, where it lost all eight seats contested.

Speaking on Astro Awani’s Tiger Show podcast, Loke stressed that DAP must respond to electoral setbacks to remain relevant, but insisted the party would not abandon Anwar or withdraw support for the government. He acknowledged that participation in government required trade-offs and subjected DAP to scrutiny, but said the party continued to raise issues within Cabinet meetings. Loke emphasized that DAP’s MPs will support the unity government until the next general election, regardless of the congress’s outcome.
