Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh seized on Perikatan Nasional chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin’s shift from a “Malay-first” stance to accuse him of chasing power. In a Facebook post, Akmal mocked Muhyiddin’s claim of prioritizing all Malaysians, suggesting it was a ploy to broaden PN’s Malay-heavy voter base for political gain. Reinforcing his hardline Malay nationalist stance, Akmal declared, “I am still Malay first before Malaysian, because that is my race which can’t be changed before, now, and God willing forever.” He prayed for protection from those exploiting race and religion, positioning himself as the staunch defender of Malay identity.
