SUFFOLK COUNTY – A decades-long saga concluded in court as Rex Heuermann, 62, confessed to murdering eight women along Long Island’s beaches. Standing before Judge Timothy Mazzei, the six-foot-four architect admitted strangling and binding his victims in the same manner before discarding their remains. Heuermann, arrested in 2023 after DNA from a pizza box linked him to the crimes, initially pleaded not guilty but ultimately admitted to killings dating back to 1996.
Heuermann Serial Killer
The case first came to light in 2010 when investigators discovered four sets of remains at Gilgo Beach. Victims included Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, Amber Costello, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, Jessica Taylor, Valerie Mack, Sandra Costilla, and Karen Vergata. Families packed the courtroom, some stifling tears, as Heuermann answered “Yes” to the judge’s questions.
