Aliff Daniel Adli, the 21-year-old Muslim whose participation in Hindu rituals at a Batu Caves temple sparked controversy, made a public declaration of repentance with his mother and younger sister in Shah Alam on Thursday (Nov 5), Malay Mail reported.

The ceremony was held before state religious officials at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque, ahead of his court-ordered faith rehabilitation.

Reciting the Islamic declaration of faith, Aliff Daniel renounced the Hindu and Buddhist rituals he had taken part in, acknowledging that his actions went against Islamic tenets and caused widespread distress.

He said he was repenting without coercion and in good faith, pledged not to repeat the acts, and committed to studying Islamic doctrine under qualified religious guidance.

Mother and sister also repent

His mother, Rohizayanti Ramli, and his younger sister also made formal declarations of repentance, expressing regret for failing to guide him away from outside influences that conflicted with Islamic teachings.

An emotional Rohizayanti acknowledged that parental lapses and a lack of religious grounding had contributed to her son’s actions. She pledged to attend religious classes and work closely with the Islamic authorities to guide him.

His sister said she would support him through prayer, family care and continued cooperation with religious bodies.

Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) chairman Datuk Salehuddin Saidin said the public ceremony was meant to confirm that all three had repented and returned to Islam in line with Ahli Sunnah Wal Jamaah teachings, and to ease public anger over the viral videos.

He said he hoped Muslims who had been upset with Aliff Daniel would realise that “we are all human and we make mistakes”.

Three months of faith rehabilitation

Salehuddin said the Syariah Court had ordered Aliff Daniel to undergo three months of mandatory faith rehabilitation at Pusat Pemurnian Akidah Baitul Iman in Hulu Yam, Selangor.

There, he will receive structured Islamic instruction from accredited teachers, followed by long-term monitoring and guidance from the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS).

The MAIS chairman also urged social media users who may have been influenced by Aliff Daniel’s past posts to reject any practices that run counter to Islamic teachings.
