Johor Bahru, May 24, 2025 – PKR president Anwar Ibrahim brushed off nepotism claims following his daughter Nurul Izzah’s election as deputy president, emphasizing the party’s democratic process. Speaking at a party event, Anwar recalled the turbulent days of 1998 when his wife, Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, led PKR during his imprisonment without facing similar accusations. “There was no congress then, just struggle,” he said, defending Nurul Izzah’s victory as a reflection of members’ trust, not family ties. The remarks come amid growing scrutiny of PKR’s leadership dynamics.
