In Semporna, Sabah, the widow and children of police sergeant Abd Azis Sarikon, who died defending Sabah during the 2013 Royal Sulu Army intrusion, now face eviction. Their home in Kampung Alab, a water village on Pulau Bodgaya, is targeted for demolition by authorities claiming it encroaches on Tun Sakaran Marine Park. Despite decades of residence, Sitti Bandorah Mahalil and fellow villagers refused to leave, even after threats of arrest. Sitti expressed heartbreak as police, including her late husband’s former unit, enforced the operation, cutting down trees and behaving rudely. Once proud of the police, Sitti now feels betrayed.
