Most of those hurt or killed (149 so far reportedly killed) in the Halloween incident in Seoul’s Itaewon neighbourhood Saturday night are teenagers or people in their 20s, according to the chief of the Yongsan Fire Department.
In an update Sunday morning, the fire department says 76 people were also injured. Nineteen of those people were severely hurt while 57 others suffered minor injuries.
Body bags are seen on the streets of Seoul’s Itaewon district, as are emergency workers performing CPR and rescuers attempting to pull people trapped beneath others.
According to reports, 100,000 people attended the first outdoor no-mask Halloween event since the pandemic and earlier in the evening, some people commented on social media that the Itaewon area was so crowded that they felt unsafe.
