Barisan Nasional (BN) has unofficially secured victory in the Mahkota by-election, amassing over 27,000 votes according to unofficial results. BN candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah triumphed over Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) Mohamad Haizan Jaafar in a closely watched straight fight. The win marks a major success for BN, as their vote count far exceeds projections for the 50 percent turnout from a total of 55 percent voter participation.
BN Wins Mahkota
As of 6 p.m., early results showed BN taking a commanding lead, bagging 3,119 votes from early ballots compared to 1,088 votes for PN. Many of the early votes came from the Mahkota military camp, one of the largest in Johor.
