Test pilot Tex Johnston stunned airline executives by performing not one but two barrel rolls in the Dash 80 prototype over Lake Washington. Flying at 490 mph, he executed the one‑G maneuver safely, proving jetliner stability.
Global Success
Minor adjustments followed, and the 707 became a global success. Malaysia‑Singapore Airlines operated the jet before splitting in 1972, with both Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines continuing to fly their own 707s.
