PETALING JAYA, 27 July 2026 – As companies accelerate artificial intelligence (AI) adoption, The National Tech Association of Malaysia (PIKOM) believes an unlikely platform, music, can help develop the human capabilities needed in an AI driven economy.
The shift towards AI driven workplaces is changing how future talent is developed, with businesses placing greater emphasis on skills that complement technology as they adapt to new ways of working.
The approach was showcased at the inaugural Gig for Good Masterclass Music Festival 2026, organised by PIKOM Academy in collaboration with Gig for Good and Musicians for Musicians (MfM), held from July 24 to 26.
The festival brought together technology professionals, corporate leaders, musicians and young talents to explore how human abilities can complement AI.
Held under the theme “The Augmented Individual: Artificial Intelligence x Human Performance”, the three day festival attracted more than 500 participants through keynote sessions, panel discussions, masterclasses and live music performances.
PIKOM: Rapid Growth of AI Requires People to Rethink on Future Readiness
PIKOM deputy chairman Alex Loh, in his opening speech, said the rapid growth of AI requires a rethink of how people are prepared for the future, with technical knowledge needing to be matched by human capabilities.
“While AI can enhance human potential, individuals must continue developing qualities that allow them to adapt, create and connect with others in an increasingly technology driven workplace,” he said.
The festival explored how music can provide a different platform for developing these capabilities. Through live performances, participants were encouraged to collaborate, communicate, solve problems and build confidence, skills that are increasingly important as workplaces evolve alongside AI.
Beyond entertainment, live music performance requires individuals to respond quickly, work with others and communicate effectively, creating an environment where participants can develop confidence while working towards a shared goal.
Tan Hui Choon, Founder & Program Director Gig For Good believes such experiences offer a different approach to learning by allowing individuals to apply skills in real situations, rather than only through theoretical discussions.
“The confidence gained from performing and collaborating can be carried into workplaces, classrooms and other professional settings,” he said.
The approach can also be applied beyond the festival environment, including corporate leadership and team building programmes, where employees are encouraged to work together, express ideas and step outside their comfort zones.
The initiative also featured the Garage Band Bootcamp, which trained more than 100 youths from 30 bands through live music performance aimed at building confidence, communication skills and overcoming fear, rather than producing professional musicians.
The initiative reflects a broader effort to explore new approaches to talent development as AI reshapes industries and the future of work.
The association aims to continue creating platforms that connect technology, creativity and human potential.
