A peculiar trend that has been around for years is when a person in a relationship gifts their partner an iPhone, or another branded smartphone. It is unclear why this is seen as the main gift to give, but social media users state if the receiver of such gifts cheat, they should either return or pay the person back.
Netizens say cheating exes must return RM5,000 gifts
An X user shared that allegedly a “famous” person cheated on someone he knows with a married man. He was assigned to collect the iPhone, and some jewelry. Then another user states that it is in bad taste to demand back the gifts that were given.
However, social media users vehemently disagree with this rhetoric, especially when it involves someone who cheated.
Others add that if someone cheated, then it is valid for the gifter to ask for the gifts back. Many see it as unfair as the person was enjoying the benefits of the relationship without the loyalty needed to sustain it.
