Malaysia reinforced its growing role as a regional leader in food innovation and trade with the inauguration of Food Expo Malaysia 2026 on April 14, 2026, in Kuala Lumpur. The three-day event, which concludes on April 16, 2026, brings together key stakeholders from across the food and beverage industry to explore emerging trends, technologies, and partnerships.
The Expo was officially opened by Chief Guest YB. Mohd Hasbie bin Muda, Former Senator and Member of the Dewan Negara Malaysia. The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Mr. Vinay Anand, Attaché (Commerce), High Commission of India in Malaysia, who participated in the ribbon-cutting.
Food Innovation Leadership in Malaysia
In his inaugural address, YB. Mohd Hasbie bin Muda highlighted the broader societal importance of the food sector, noting its role in connecting communities, preserving cultural heritage, and supporting livelihoods. He drew attention to rapid advancements in food processing, packaging, and supply chain systems, emphasizing their importance in addressing global challenges such as food security and sustainability.
He further underlined Malaysia’s strategic advantage as a multicultural and forward-looking nation, positioning it as a key hub for food trade and innovation in the region. According to him, platforms like Food Expo Malaysia 2026 are instrumental in promoting cross-border collaboration, attracting investment, and elevating industry standards.
Delivering the opening remarks, Dr. Annathurai Ranganathan, Director of EPI Academy, spoke about the evolving landscape of the food industry, shaped by shifting consumer expectations, technological progress, and sustainability priorities. He emphasized that the Expo provides a dynamic platform for industry players to exchange insights, present innovations, and build long-term collaborations.
Dr. Annathurai also highlighted the human element behind the industry, noting that such events foster meaningful relationships, encourage entrepreneurship, and inspire the next generation of food industry leaders. He pointed to Malaysia’s strong culinary heritage and strategic location as key factors that make it an ideal host for an international event of this scale.
In his address, Datuk Surendran Menon, General Secretary of the Malaysia India Business Council (MIBC), described the food and beverage sector as a cornerstone of global economic development. He emphasized its role in driving innovation, generating employment, and supporting sustainable growth.
He also highlighted the expanding opportunities within India’s food processing industry, noting its significant market size and future growth potential driven by urbanization and evolving consumer demand for convenience and premium food products.
Datuk Surendran Menon concluded the session with the Vote of Thanks, acknowledging the contributions of organizers, participants, and partners in making the event a success.
Food Expo Malaysia 2026 is expected to draw strong participation from regional and international exhibitors, further strengthening Malaysia’s position as a gateway to ASEAN markets and a hub for innovation in the global food ecosystem.
