Police identified the vehicle owner, who returned the purse but denied any cash was inside. The couple said the money was kept due to favourable exchange rates, expressing disappointment over the incident’s impact on their perception of Malaysia.
Authorities noted the cash could not be recovered without admission, leaving the couple with a painful lesson abroad.
