BEIJING – A 19-year-old student in Quanzhou, Fujian, suffered near paralysis after years of excessive phone use and physical strain. Identified as Xiao Dong, the third-year university student reportedly spent long hours playing video games, scrolling social media, and working part-time as a dishwasher during summer. The sedentary lifestyle and prolonged neck-bending led to a torn blood vessel in his spinal canal, causing a large hematoma at the cervical C4-T1 segment. Xiao woke on July 30 unable to feel or move his legs. Doctors said the blood clot severely compressed his spinal cord, leaving him almost paralysed.
