Government corruption has overtaken the cost of living as Americans’ top concern ahead of the Nov 3 midterm elections, according to a new Fox News poll reported by AL.com.
The survey found 88% of respondents were extremely or very concerned about corruption in government, compared with 85% for inflation and high prices and 83% for gas prices. Far more Democrats than Republicans said they were extremely concerned about corruption (72% vs 47%) and inflation (70% vs 49%).
The poll came as Kimberly Guilfoyle was fired as US ambassador to Greece following reports that she asked a Trump donor to pay off her US$100,000 credit card bill, which she has denied. Trump has also denied accusations that he and his family have profited from his presidency.
Democrats Widen Lead in Midterms
If the elections were held today, 54% of voters would back the Democratic candidate in their House district and 45% the Republican, a lead outside the margin of error and wider than last month’s 51%-44%. Among those certain to vote, Democrats led 52%-46%.
