Daniel Lubetzky Reveals Burnout Lessons From Building KIND

Daniel Lubetzky, founder of KIND Snacks and a Shark Tank investor, has opened up about the toll of burnout while building his multibillion‑dollar company.

Running on just four to five hours of sleep a night, Lubetzky said the nonstop grind left him exhausted, unhealthy, and looking like a “phantom raccoon.” The experience taught him that ambition must be balanced with recovery.

Disconnect to Recharge: Lubetzky’s Advice for Entrepreneurs

In today’s AI‑driven era, that balance is harder to achieve. Technology enables founders to juggle multiple projects but also encourages constant work and fragmented attention.

Lubetzky, who is launching his Build or Break podcast, shared four strategies to protect ambition from burnout. First, founders should take deliberate recovery time, even short breaks after intense work.

Second, they should schedule recurring periods to fully disconnect from devices, similar to Shabbat. Third, creating space to process information — through walks, meditation, or quiet reflection — helps counter the flood of inputs. Finally, turning off nonessential notifications allows founders to regain control of their focus.

Lubetzky emphasized that entrepreneurship is a marathon, not a sprint. His advice reflects lessons learned from years of sacrifice and underscores the importance of boundaries in sustaining long‑term success.
