Heritage Stories Project Documents End‑of‑Life Journey

Larry Aaronson, an 85‑year‑old former high school teacher from Cambridge, Massachusetts, reached out after seeing the first Facebook ad for Heritage Stories, a project designed to help older people capture their legacies.

He wanted to record his extraordinary life while he was still able to tell his stories. What began as a simple interview quickly became a profound journey documenting his final days.

Larry described his life as one of “serendipity.” He taught generations of students, including Matt Damon, Casey Affleck, and NBA legend Patrick Ewing.

Former students remained deeply connected to him, often saying he was “like family.” When Larry entered hospice in July 2026, the project shifted into daily interviews and recordings of the community that surrounded him. Friends, family, and former students visited to share memories, care for him, and say goodbye.

Despite knowing his time was short, Larry radiated peace. His final days were filled with love, validation, and joy.

He believed the most important lesson in life was to lead with love — a message that deeply impacted those around him. Larry passed away peacefully on August 1, leaving behind a legacy of connection, compassion, and inspiration.
