New: DAP Congress to Address Reform Frustrations

1 min read

KOTA KINABALU, Aug 10, 2026 – National DAP organising secretary Datuk Chan Foong Hin said the party’s upcoming congress on Aug 16 will serve as a platform for delegates to debate institutional reforms and the party’s future direction amid growing grassroots frustration. More than 4,000 delegates are expected to attend, with discussions focusing on stalled reforms such as the proposed 10‑year limit for the prime minister’s tenure and the separation of the Attorney General and Public Prosecutor’s roles. Chan admitted these initiatives lacked sufficient parliamentary support, leaving members dissatisfied with the pace of change after three and a half years in government.

Reform Frustrations

He stressed the congress is part of DAP’s democratic process, not a reaction to recent political shifts, though he acknowledged Malaysia’s political landscape remains “blurred.” Delegates will weigh how to balance clarity, parliamentary strength, and reform momentum as the party looks ahead to the remainder of its term.
