Loke Says DAP’s Future in Government Hinges on Delegates’ Mandate

PETALING JAYA, July 21, 2026DAP secretary‑general Loke Siew Fook has declared he wants the party to remain in the federal government but will respect whatever decision delegates make at the Aug 16 party congress.

Speaking to BFM 89.9, Loke said the matter will be decided through a secret ballot involving 3,000–4,000 delegates. He stressed that DAP leaders cannot behave as opposition figures while holding government positions, noting their duty is to govern and deliver.

Loke added that the outcome of the Negeri Sembilan state election on Aug 1 will influence delegates’ direction. He defended dissolving the assembly, saying PH had little choice with only 17 of 36 seats. He also reminded members that DAP’s cooperation with Barisan Nasional in 2022 was necessary to prevent Perikatan Nasional from taking Putrajaya.
