Engineer Denies Soliciting RM13,000 Bribe in Procurement Case

Engineer Mohamed Rizal Salim, 40, pleaded not guilty to soliciting a RM13,000 bribe from a company director in 2022. The bribe was allegedly requested to facilitate procurement approvals while he served as a Grade J41 civil engineer at the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID).

Engineer Denies Soliciting RM13,000 Bribe in Procurement Case

Charged under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009, he faces up to 20 years in jail and a fine of RM65,000 if convicted. The prosecution sought RM15,000 bail, but the court settled on RM10,000 after considering Rizal’s financial obligations.

Bail conditions include monthly MACC reporting and surrendering his passport. The next court date is August 8.
