Travellers at Chicago O’Hare International Airport got an unusual surprise on Tuesday when an exotic green bird flew into a terminal and was filmed fighting with passengers and airline workers, according to reports.
The bird appeared in Terminal 5. Its species has not been confirmed, but onlookers described it as a green, parrot-like bird. Several people reportedly tried to catch it or coax it down, but one witness summed up the standoff by saying the bird “chose fight, not flight”. One account said it kept biting passengers for hours.
Green Bird
Birds getting into airport terminals is not unusual. Airport workers have told Chicago public radio station WBEZ that starlings and sparrows are often seen inside O’Hare, where they usually keep out of the way and live on crumbs left by travellers. The Chicago Bird Collision Monitors group has suggested humane traps to catch such birds and release them outside.
The reports did not say how the standoff ended or whether anyone was hurt.
