Health policy expert Lim Chee Han of the Third World Network research group says Health Minister Khairy, head of the national vaccination programme since February, was a key factor in the vaccine roll-out success in Malaysia.
Khairy took over from his much-criticised predecessor Adham Baba, who earlier in the pandemic had advised Malaysians to drink warm water to fight off the coronavirus.
“Khairy is a prime example showing how much difference and impact a competent and effective leader can make,” Lim said, adding that “competent civil servants” in the health ministry also played a key role.
