Firemen Rescue 44 Pupils and Teachers Trapped by Flash Flood in Johor Bahru

Firemen rescued 37 pupils and seven teachers after a kindergarten and nursery in Jalan Muhd Amin, Johor Bahru, were inundated by flash floods following heavy rain on September 30. The emergency call was received at 3.53pm, prompting 10 firefighters from Larkin Fire and Rescue Station to head to the scene. 

The rescue team arrived at 4.14pm and immediately began evacuating those trapped inside the Umiku Sayang Kindergarten and Nursery. With floodwaters making access difficult, the victims were moved using a volunteer’s boat and taken safely to the nearby Tepian Food Court Surau. Authorities confirmed that all 44 victims were successfully evacuated and no injuries were reported.

The flash flood was among several incidents reported around Johor Bahru following continuous heavy afternoon rain. Rising water also affected roads, leaving some motorists stranded or unable to pass through flooded areas. The incident highlights the challenges faced by schools and childcare facilities when sudden flooding occurs, particularly when young children are among those affected.
