KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 1, 2026 – Barisan Nasional (BN) remains open to negotiations with Pakatan Harapan (PH) over a possible pact for the upcoming Melaka state election, despite PH leaders ruling out cooperation.
BN secretary-general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said PH could not be forced into an alliance but stressed BN’s willingness to engage. “If they don’t want to cooperate with us, that’s their right. We can’t force them. But our doors are always open,” he told reporters.

Asyraf added that BN was still in discussions with potential allies, noting that no formal agreement had been reached. “Let’s wait. The Election Commission hasn’t even announced the dates,” he said.
Yesterday, Amanah communications director Khalid Samad stated PH would not work with BN, while PH communications director Fahmi Fadzil reiterated that the coalition’s presidential council decides on political cooperation.
